Home to both Sitting Bull and Gutzon Borglum, the man who carved the faces of great men all over his people's mountains, South Dakota has enjoyed a colorful and sometimes ironic history of contention. One of the most notable moments came in 1889 when North Dakota and South Dakota were admitted into the Union as the 39th and 40th states, and President Harrison had to shuffle the document as he signed them so that no one would know which state was admitted first. Unfortunately, as you might be able to relate, many of this world's legal troubles can't be solved quite so quaintly. Luckily, South Dakota is home to a sizable stockade of lawyers who are willing to get down and dirty on your behalf.
